Reports from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria always place the region at volatile situations, full of insecurities, conflicts and agitations.
And as journalists continue to face the heat of their job in 2025, capacity strengthening has been identified as one way journalists can fulfill their obligations without fear or favour.
This was the submission at a 3 day‘ Refresher Common Ground Journalism Training held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The training which brought 30 journalists from Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States to Port Harcourt aims to expand their knowledge on best practices to covering conflict in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Speaking to News after the training,National media and digital peace building specialist for search for common ground Nigeria , Mr. Temisan Etietsola stated that the importance of the refresher training is to remind and enable journalists to focus on community transformation and peace building reportage of the Niger Delta.

On his part, the media and communication officer of Search for Common Ground, Mr. Sunny Dada explained that the program provides opportunity for journalists to understand how to frame their languages while reporting, to capture the positive part of the Niger Delta and play down on words that triggers conflict situations

The participants underscored that such trainings as the one organized by Search for Common Ground , funded by European Union keep journalists up to date in carrying out their responsibilities as media professionals.
