Police operatives attached to Azikiwe Police Division and Octopus tactical unit have foiled a planned cult war at the Rivers State University, following supremacy battle between suspected cult groups of the University in Port Harcourt
We gathered that members of one of the cult group who were on their way to the main campus of the University to unleash violence on their opponents, came in contact with their rivals along Mile 2 Diobu where they engaged themselves in a shootout.
Eyewitnesses say business owners and passersby scampered for safety even as some hurriedly closed for the day as the clash ensued.
Our source disclosed that with the timely intervention of the Police, three suspected student cultists involved in the clash were arrested which brought the situation under control.
Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the incident said three suspects were arrested while, one English made revolver pistol, one live ammunition and three expanded ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
SP Iringe-koko added that investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting fleeing members of the cult groups.
