Cedarwood Estate: Rivers State Police Command Debunks Fraternizing With Land Grabber

Mr. Chinedu Igweze and Gbenga Oladapo Esq two landlords of Cedarwood estate at SARS road in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area who spoke for the affected landlords during a protest on Wednesday,October 22,2025 had accused the DPO of conniving with Mr Nyegwa to grab their property. Civil Society Group Accuses Investigative Media Platform of Unethical Reporting

A civil society organisation, the Niger Delta Rights Advocates (NDRA), has expressed disappointment over what it described as unethical reporting by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).  The group accused FIJ of promoting a one-sided story that allegedly maligned a public servant, Adagiri Ismail, under the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS). According to Dr Chuks Alozie, Director of Research and Documentation at NDRA, FIJ's online reports of October 6 and 8, 2025, portrayed a suspect in a trial as a hero, which they believe is inconsistent with journalistic practice. The group noted that while citizen journalism deepens democracy, it does not justify publications that qualify as defamatory or seditious. INEC Gets New Chairman Professor Amupitan

By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu    The National Council of State has approved the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) from the North-Central as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).   President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented Amupitan as the nominee to fill the vacant position, following Professor Mahmood Yakubu's exit. Yakubu served from 2015 till October 2025.   President Tinubu told the council that Amupitan is the first person from Kogi,  North-Central state, nominated to occupy the position and is apolitical.   Council members unanimously supported the nomination, with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo describing Amupitan as a man of integrity.   In compliance with the constitution, President Tinubu will now send Amupitan’s name to the Senate for screening.   Amupitan, 58, from Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA  in Kogi State, is a  Professor of Law at the University of Jos, Plateau. Head Of Rivers State Civil Service Confirms Fire Incident At Secretariat

  By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  The Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown says there were no casualties during a fire incident that occurred at the State Secretariat Complex on Monday 6th October 2025.  Speaking to Newsmen on the ground floor of Podium Block, location of the incident, the Head of Service disclosed that on noticing the fire outbreak, the State Fire Service and other agencies were promptly called to contain the inferno.  "We were informed that there was a fire incident at the right wing, ground floor of Podium Block and we immediately  made calls to the Rivers State Fire Service, and they responded promptly.
