The meeting was effectively chaired by the Acting Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.

During the session, he took the opportunity to commend INEC for its unwavering commitment to conducting credible and transparent elections across Nigeria. In particular, he praised the Commission’s exemplary performance during the recent August 16 Bye-Elections, which underscored their dedication to electoral integrity and professionalism.

The detailed preparations by INEC for upcoming critical elections, including the Anambra State Governorship Election, the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections, and the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, are highly commendable. These efforts provide reassurance to all stakeholders that Nigeria is on the path toward more credible and well-organized electoral processes.

On the issue of Continuous Voter Registration - The exercise, which runs until August 2026, allows online and in-person registration nationwide. Weekly updates, she said, are published on INEC’s website to ensure transparency and public accountability. She further announced that out of 171 applications received for registration of new political parties, 14 had met the requirements to proceed to the next stage.

Agbamuche-Mbu also paid tribute to the immediate past INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, commending his legacy of innovation and institutional integrity.

Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), congratulated Agbamuche-Mbu on her appointment and pledged continued collaboration with INEC to deepen democratic governance.

He urged the National Assembly to expedite constitutional and electoral reforms proposed by IPAC, including the scrapping of State Independent Electoral Commissions, establishment of an Electoral Offences Commission, and enhanced inclusivity for women.

Dantalle said Nigerians expect credible and transparent elections, adding that the Anambra governorship poll would be a major test for the new INEC leadership.

As Nigeria approaches these significant electoral milestones, APGA National Chairman remain confident that INEC will uphold the principles of fairness and transparency. For APGA, our commitment is unwavering in advocating for issue-based campaigns and the democratic tenet of peaceful participation. We firmly believe that credible elections are the foundation of good governance, national stability, and sustainable development.

Our party’s dedication to partnering with INEC to promote and protect the sanctity of Nigeria’s democratic process remains firm. We will continue to support initiatives that enhance electoral integrity and foster a culture of peaceful, transparent political engagement.
