OPINION - Leadership Changes At INEC; The High Stakes For Fair Elections And Nigeria's Democratic Future As Viewed By APGA National Chairman

Leadership transition at Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) signifies a pivotal moment in our nation’s democratic journey. With the departure of its Chairman – Yakubu Mohammed, and some commissioners, Nigeria faces a critical crossroads that will determine the integrity, transparency, and credibility of our electoral process — not just for 2027, but for the future of our democracy.

The 2023 general elections, despite significant strides, were marred by notable hitches—logistical challenges, instances of vote manipulation, and emerging doubts about the impartiality of electoral officials.


 These issues underscored the urgent need for a robust, independent, and transparent electoral body that commands public trust and reflects the will of the Nigerian people. THE CREDIBILITY OF INEC IS NOT MERELY ABOUT ADMINISTRATION; IT IS THE BEDROCK UPON WHICH DEMOCRATIC LEGITIMACY IS BUILT.

Leadership at INEC must now prioritize the preservation of electoral integrity. The NEW leadership’s ability to demonstrate independence from political pressures, uphold transparency in all processes, and ensure a level playing field will be critical. The credibility of the 2027 elections hinges on these qualities.

 Any perception of bias or manipulation—whether real or perceived—could erode public confidence, deepen political divisions, and threaten Nigeria’s democratic stability.

Furthermore, the new leadership must address the systemic issues that have historically challenged Nigeria’s electoral processes. This includes improving technological infrastructure, streamlining logistical arrangements, and enhancing voter education and turnout. 


These reforms are essential in reducing electoral disputes and fostering a culture of trust and acceptance among Nigerians.
The stakes are undeniably high.

 Nigeria’s democracy must evolve beyond mere electoral exercises to become a true reflection of the people’s will.

 The leadership of INEC will play a decisive role in this evolution. Their commitment to impartiality, accountability, and integrity will determine whether Nigeria’s 2027 elections will be a step forward in democratic consolidation or a setback that fuels cynicism and disillusionment.

As the nation prepares for this transition, Nigerians must remain vigilant and demand transparency from INEC’s new leadership. Civil society, political parties, and citizens must collaborate to ensure that the electoral process is free, fair, and credible. Nigeria’s democratic future depends on it.

In conclusion, the leadership changes at INEC are not just administrative shifts—they are a litmus test for Nigeria’s commitment to electoral integrity and democratic consolidation.

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive. Hoodlums Kidnap Students Of Rivers State University

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said today 2nd December 2025, a group of suspected cultists, numbering about five, attacked an isolated area in Rumuche/Rumuohia Community. The hoodlums shot and abducted five persons to an unknown destination.
