APGA Launches Nationwide Electronic Membership Registration To Strengthen Democratic Process

Written By Nduka Anyanwu

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), under the leadership of its National Chairman Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has announced an ambitious initiative to modernize and expand its membership across Nigeria. The party is set to launch a Continuous Electronic Membership Registration Exercise starting March 1, 2026, marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and internal democracy within the party.

A Nationwide Digital Revolution in Party Membership
This groundbreaking exercise will be conducted simultaneously in all 8,809 electoral wards nationwide, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The move aims to create a unified, digitalized database of members, making party management more efficient and data-driven. According to Mazi Ejimofor Opara, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, the initiative underscores the party’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and democratic innovation.

“This nationwide initiative will begin on March 1, 2026, and will take place simultaneously across all wards in Nigeria,” Opara stated during a press briefing at the party’s zonal headquarters in Awka, Anambra State.

Objectives and Benefits of the Electronic Registration
The primary goal of this exercise is to strengthen internal party democracy by providing a reliable, digitized record of members. It also aims to improve data integrity and administrative efficiency, making it easier for the party to plan, strategize, and mobilize supporters effectively.

Existing members who registered electronically are not required to re-register unless they need to update their passport photographs. New and intending members, however, are encouraged to register online, via WhatsApp, or at designated ward offices. All participants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN), a voter’s card, and two passport photographs.

Inclusive and Transparent Membership Drive
The registration process is designed to be accessible and straightforward. Prospective members can register online at www.officialapga.ng, through WhatsApp at 07055363333, or visit their local ward offices.

New members will receive a Temporary Membership Slip before being issued a Permanent Membership Card. APGA’s leadership is optimistic about the impact of this initiative. Opara expressed confidence that the party could surpass a two-million membership figure, a target that would significantly bolster its national footprint and political influence.

Pioneering Democratic Innovation
APGA claims to be the first political party in Nigeria to fully automate its membership registration system, a move it undertook in June 2024. This innovation demonstrates the party’s dedication to fostering transparency and democratic processes in Nigerian politics, moving away from traditional, manual registration methods that are often susceptible to manipulation.

Addressing Regional Perceptions
In response to claims that APGA is regionally confined, Opara emphasized that the party’s electoral victories outside its traditional zones, such as in Benue State, prove its national reach. “Every party has regional coloration. APGA, by its constitution, cannot be called a regional party,” he asserted. He also highlighted the importance of ideology-driven coalitions over expedient alliances.

A Call to Action for Nigerians
Opara urged eligible Nigerians to seize the registration opportunity, emphasizing that the party’s vision is geared toward building a progressive and inclusive Nigeria. “We invite all eligible Nigerians to join the APGA family and contribute to shaping the future of our nation,” he concluded.

Conclusion
APGA’s nationwide electronic membership registration marks a pivotal step toward modernizing Nigerian political parties and promoting internal democracy. With a target of over two million members and a fully digitized system, the party aims to solidify its presence across Nigeria, fostering greater transparency, inclusivity, and engagement among its supporters.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its democratic journey, initiatives like APGA’s digitized membership registration could set a precedent for other parties to follow, ultimately strengthening the nation’s political landscape.
