Rivers State House Of Assembly Reiterates Support For Women


 

In commemoration of this year’s International Women's Day, the Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr.Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani has reiterated the 9th Assembly’s commitment in the support of women’s course.

 

Mr. Ibani stated this when the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ; Rivers State chapter visited the Assembly in a solidarity walk to mark the day.


He said the Rivers State House of Assembly has carried out several measures to see that issues relating to women in the society are given top priority.


Mr. Ibani further noted that the state House of Assembly will continue to stand solidly behind the gender equality bill , noting that women should be given opportunity to occupy  positions in the various sector of the economy.


The Speaker told women that the Governor's Nyesom Wike led administration is gender sensitive and will continue to support women in their struggle for a better welfare package.

 

On the Gender Bill currently before the National Assembly , Mr.Ibani said women should go beyond the level of advocacy to practice.

 

On her part, Chairperson Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Rivers state, Mrs.Susan Serekara-Nwikhana  appealed to the state House of Assembly to convey the message of reconsidering the Gender Bill bordering on women to the National Assembly .


Mrs. Serekara-Nwikhana expressed displeasure at the dismissal of women at the National Assembly demanding for their rights.

 

She urged women in the state to get their Permanent Voters Card PVC, to vote credible leaders especially women into positions of  power in the 2023 general election.

Bille People Appeal To Governor Fubara To Prevail On Alhaji Asari Dokubo To Stop Evasion Of Territory
