OPINION - APGA National Chairman Honored With Chieftaincy Title In Umuchu

In a momentous celebration that underscores his deep-rooted connection to community and leadership, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), High Chief Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, was conferred with the esteemed traditional title of “Ezenwata Umuchu” by His Royal Highness, Igwe Godson O. Ezechukwu, OFR (Okwuloha I of Umuchu). 

The grand event took place on Tuesday, December 30, amid the vibrant festivities of the annual Ofala Festival, a revered cultural celebration in Umuchu. 

The community was surrounded by the Council of Chiefs, community leaders, dignitaries, and a sea of familiar faces, the title felt less like elevation and more like recognition, a community seeing its own reflection and giving it a name. – This explains the dignity of such a man – Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa.

The ceremony, held at the historic Crystal Palace in Umuchu within Aguata Local Government Area, drew a large and jubilant gathering of community members, elders, chiefs, and distinguished guests. 

Attendees included traditional rulers, community leaders, political dignitaries, and loyal members of the APGA family, all gathered to honor a leader whose contributions continue to shape the socio-political landscape of Nigeria.

In his heartfelt remarks, High Chief Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa, expressed profound gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him. He described the conferral of the chieftaincy title as a call to greater service and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the principles of integrity, justice, and community development. 

“This recognition is not just an accolade but a reminder of my duty to serve my people with humility and dedication,” he stated.


The event was graced by the presence of notable dignitaries, including Rt. Hon. Chuma Pius Okoye, Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly; Chief Ugochukwu Obiefuna, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Soludo and Chief of Staff to the APGA National Chairman; Hon. Obinna Iyiegbu; and other national and state officers of APGA. The gathering also included party faithful, community stakeholders, and excited indigenes who celebrated the occasion as a testament to the enduring bond between leadership and tradition.

This conferment not only recognizes Barrister Ezeokenwa’s political achievements but also highlights his dedication to community service and his role as a bridge between traditional authority and modern governance. As “Ezenwata Umuchu,” his leadership is now further cemented in the cultural fabric of Umuchu, inspiring others to emulate his commitment to societal progress.

This celebration marks a significant milestone in the journey of a leader whose influence extends beyond politics, echoing the values of unity, service, and cultural heritage that define Umuchu and its people.
