OPINION – “2027 Elections” - APGA Calls For Unity, Electoral Credibility And National Stability Amid Rising Tensions As Viewed By APGA National Chairman
Written By Nduka Anyanwu
As Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 general elections, concerns over insecurity, political tensions, and increasing legal disputes have continued to dominate national conversations. Across the country, many citizens are expressing fears over the credibility of the electoral process, the stability of democratic institutions, and the need to preserve national unity during a politically sensitive period.
Speaking on the growing concerns, Sly Ezeokenwa, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emphasized the urgent need for political actors, institutions, and citizens to place national interest above personal ambition in order to protect Nigeria’s democracy and sustain public confidence in governance.
According to him, democracy can only thrive where there is peace, fairness, justice, and credible leadership. He noted that the increasing wave of insecurity, inflammatory political rhetoric, and prolonged legal battles among political actors could weaken public trust in the electoral system if not properly managed.
Barrister Ezeokenwa stressed that the 2027 elections must not only be free and fair but must also be seen by Nigerians as transparent, credible, and inclusive. He urged all stakeholders — including political parties, the judiciary, security agencies, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and the media — to play responsible roles in strengthening democratic values and promoting peaceful participation.
He further stated that the nation must begin early preparations toward voter education, electoral reforms, and improved security coordination to prevent violence, intimidation, and voter apathy. According to him, Nigerians deserve a democratic environment where every vote counts and where citizens can freely participate without fear or manipulation.
The APGA National Chairman also called on political leaders to avoid divisive politics capable of threatening national cohesion. He maintained that leadership should be driven by service, accountability, and people-oriented policies rather than bitterness and unhealthy political rivalry.
Speaking on the role of the youth, Barrister Ezeokenwa encouraged young Nigerians to remain actively involved in democratic processes while rejecting violence, misinformation, and political manipulation. He described the youth population as critical stakeholders in shaping a peaceful and progressive Nigeria.
He further reiterated APGA’s commitment to issue-based politics, national development, and the promotion of democratic ideals that unite rather than divide the people. According to him, the future of Nigeria depends largely on the collective willingness of leaders and citizens to protect democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law.
“As a nation, we must rise above fear, division, and political hostility. The credibility of our elections and the unity of our people remain essential to the future stability and prosperity of Nigeria,” Barrister Ezeokenwa stated.
As political activities gradually build toward 2027, observers believe that continued dialogue, institutional reforms, peaceful engagement, and responsible leadership will play decisive roles in strengthening public confidence and preserving Nigeria’s democracy.
