In a bid to reenergize staff towards enhancing its developmental thrive in Nigeria, The Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD) organised Board and Staff Annual Retreat.
The retreat which was held in Port Harcourt was aimed at accelerating CEHRD's Strategy for the year 2026 to 2028.
Addressing the participants during the retreat, the coordinator (CEHRD), Dr. Nubari Nabie stated that the retreat gave opportunity for the Vision and Mission of CEHRD to be rekindled so staff can enhance their productivity in alignment with organization objectives.
He recounted that CEHRD has had remarkable successes, encouraging staff to continue their impacts on the community without fear or favour.
On his part, CEHRD's head of programme, Mr. Styvn Obodokwe reviewed that the organization is known for defending the rights of citizens, urging that it will continue to speak out and hold the government at all levels accountable.
Speaking further, Head of Administration and Finance, Mrs. Nnenna Okoroji stressed the need for staff to continue to work in unity, while looking at cut-crossing their Programmes to align with global practices.
She remarked that CEHRD has a strong financial and procurement team that ensures accountability and transparency in project delivery.
Presenting CEHRD's achievements in the year 2025, the Head of Environment and Conservation, Dr. Tammy Cookey reviewed that CEHRD had successfully completed some projects, while others are ongoing.
He stated that CEHRD had successfully completed a Mitigating Effect of Oil Re-pollution in Rivers and Bayelsa States where one hundred and fifty ex-artisanal refiners were educated on the need to discourage oil Re-pollution.
Dr. Cookey further stated that CEHRD is carrying out an Accelerating Community-Led Mangrove Restoration Project in Rivers State, Community-Led Water Sustenance Project in Rivers State amongst others.
On her part, Head of Human Rights and Governance, Miss Queen Agba added that CEHRD through it's pro-bono services handled 45 Gender and Human Rights cases which included spousal battery, loans, land ownership, tenancy among others.
Miss Agba noted that while some of the cases were resolved through CEHRD's mediation process, others were referred to other partner organisations, while some others were abandoned by the reporters.
The Senior Advocacy and Communication officer, Mr. Josiah Egbilika added that CEHRD's reach has gone beyond Rivers State as victims of gender and human rights cases call all the way from Benue, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States.
Furthermore, the Head of Rural Health and Community Development, Mrs. Charity Laku stated that CEHRD is still continuing its education, nutrition and medical outreach projects in Rivers State.
She revealed that over four thousand students in six schools in Gokana and Khana Local Government Areas in Rivers State have been reached with the outreach project, stating that the numbers keep increasing by the day.
Meanwhile in her speech, the Chairperson, Board of Trustees Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), Chief Constance Meju - appreciated CEHRD's staff for sustaining the legacy of CEHRD over the years while encouraging them to always see the under reached population as their motivation in their line of work.
She also appreciated all CEHRD's sponsors while encouraging them to continue to sponsor the organization, promising that CEHRD will always deliver transparently.
The high point of the retreat was the presentation of CEHRD's three years Strategic Plan spanning from 2026-2028. At the end of the retreat, a communique was issued.
