Police To Partner Rivers State Judiciary For Effective Justice Delivery

 Rivers State Police Command says it  will synergise with the judiciary as part of efforts to reduce crime and criminality in the state. Commissioner of police Mr Eboka Friday stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the chief judge of Rivers State Mrs. Adanma Lamikanra . He noted that a relationship between the police and the judiciary will fast track the delivery of criminal justice. The Commissioner of Police said officers are trained and retrained to avoid act of human rights abuses that might lead to litigations. On her part, Chief Judge of the State Mrs. Adanma Lamikanra while appreciating the Commissioner of Police for the visit said the judiciary will consolidate efforts of the police to ensure that crime and criminality is brought to the bearest  minimum in the state. Our correspondent reports that top police officers accompanied the Commissioner of Police on the visit.

Police Rescue Abducted King Of Ikuru In Andoni LGA ,One Suspected Arrested

 The Okama of Ikuru in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State , King Aaron Ikuku abducted on the 21st of last month from his home town has been released.  The Monarch was released last night at a forest in Abissa, Akuku Toru Local Government Area, where he had been held in captivity for a month now. Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officers Mr Nnamdi Omoni in a press  statement noted that the king was rescued in synergy with the Navy, while one of the suspected kidnappers was arrested. Court Sentence 35 Year Old Man To Prison For Vandalization Of PHED Cables

A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced a 35 year old man, Etim Offiong to one year in prison  Etim Offiong was sentenced on 1 count charge bothering on tampering with an electric pole belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company and an attempt to disconnect PHED armoured cables  the substation at Mbiama street in Old GRA Presiding magistrate Chinwe Nsirim in her ruling said the crime was in  contravention of the Rivers State Criminal Code of 1991 Defense counsel  P.N. Ogbugbanam  had earlier pleaded the court to tamper justice with mercy since her client claimed to be the only child of his parents .

Rivers State Government Tasked To Set up Agency To Enforce Prohibition Of Falling Of Trees

 As part of effort to preserve the environment, Rivers State government has been called to set up an agency charged with the responsibility to enforce the prohibition of falling of trees in the state. Executive Director Journalists for Sustainable Development In Nigeria, pastor Parry Benson made the appealed at the flag off of the  tree planting Awareness campaign at Isaac Boro park in Port Harcourt. Pastor Benson decried the ill attitude of some people towards the environment that had endangered the well being of both human beings and animals. RSIEC Partner Police For Peaceful LGAs Election

   Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC; has called for the cooperation and support of the Rivers State Police command in providing  adequate security during the forthcoming local govt elections in the state. The chairman of the commission, Justice George Omereji made the call when he led Members of the Commission on a Courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police.   Justice George Omereji commended the new commissioner of police for improving security in the State since assumption of duty.  Justice Omereji however seeked to renew partnership with the Command while promising to conduct a free, fair and credible Election.  He further assured the CP, that the Commission would provide a level playing field for all Political Parties in the area. Jubilation As Police Rescue Abducted UniPort Lecturer After 3 Weeks In Captivity

 The Rivers State Police Command has rescued Dr. Jones Ayauwu, a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies of the University of Port Harcourt. The University Don who was abducted   on 21/2/2021 along Bori Road by unknown gunmen while returning from a function in Andoni Local Government Area, was taken hostage and had been in captivity until his release last night. Police Parades Father Of Four Who Rape Ladies And Steal Their Belongings In Rivers

 Rivers State Police command has paraded a man, Mr Belema Ibiama who allegedly rape and rob young ladies after he had drugged them. The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officers Mr Nnamdi Omoni said that the suspect lured his female victims on social media with mouth watery promises before carrying out the criminal act. Appeal Court Struck Out Case Involving 22 Sacked LGA Chairmen In Rivers

  The Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt has struck out the appeal of 22 sacked Local Government Council Chairmen during 2015 election against Rivers State Government, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC and others. The lead judge, Justice Tan Yusuf-Hassan in her ruling said there was no proper notice of appeal found in the record of the court as such, the case cannot be heard and struck it out. Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, Counsel to the third and fourth respondents which is Rivers State Government and Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC, Echezona Etiaba said the judgement was in their favour due to preliminary objection filed. NLC Protest Against Bill Seeking To Transfer Minimum Wage From Exclusive List

 The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Rivers State Chapter today joined the nationwide protest of the union to reject a new bill seeking to transfer the powers to legislate on minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative list to the Concurrent list. Presenting a letter to the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chairperson of the Chapter, Comrade Beatrice Itubo told the Speaker of the House Assembly Ikuinyi -Owaji Ibani who was represented by the clerk of the House Stanford Oba that the bill was harmful to the efforts of Nigerian workers to have decent living wage. Mrs Itubo appealed to the state Assembly to reject the bill if it gets to them as it was anti-people and targeted at enslaving workers in the country. Police Commence Second Phase Of NHIS Enrolment For Retired Officers

The Rivers State Police command said the National Health Insurance Scheme enrollment exercise has commenced National wide for retired police officers. Police Public Relations Officers Mr Nnamdi Omoni in a press release said all Police retirees should report to any nearby Area from Monday 15th to Thursday 18th of this month for the exercise. Mr Omoni stated that officers affected are to come with letter of retirement, retirees' letter of identification or ID cards . Embattled Ex-CTC Chairman Of APC In Rivers, Igo Aguma Exit Party

 The embattled factional caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC; in Rivers State  Hon. Igo Aguma has announced his exit from the party.  Hon. Aguma in a press release said he has  received the Supreme Court judgement which dismissed his Appeal challenging the Court of Appeal decision which upturned the High Court judgment that declared him as Acting Chairman of APC in the state.  The embattled chairman stated It was clear that  it is not within the purview of the Court to protect the rights and privileges of members of a political party, but  that of  the party , which he said  APC have failed to do so .  Aguma noted that he not continue to be a member of a Political party that endangers and does not give any form of protection to the rights of its members and has no respect whatsoever for its own constitution  but chooses to be run against democratic principles  for self destructive purposes.
