Thirteen Private chapels of the Rivers State Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ; have insisted that without the participation of the registered private media houses in Council"s election, the exercise will not take place in the state.
Chairman of the communique drafting committee Mr Olalekan Ige who made this known at a press conference in PortHarcourt said they are working with the delegates list pasted by the credentials committee on the notice board at the council's Secretariat, which was approved by the national Secretariat for the election.
"And by the foregoing, the council expects and will welcome the conduct of free ,fair and peaceful elections as soon as the credentials committee can obtain leave of the National Secretariat.''
Mr Ige explained that the status quo being Stanley Job and Ike Wigodo as the council's chairman and secretary remains.
He maintained that the private media chapels in the state have actively been involved in all elections in the council before the current impasse and up to date financial status all through the period.
''That the sum of#1.7 million has been paid out of a total sum of #1.8million demanded by the national Secretariat to offset all outstanding check-off dues from the council as prerequisite for the conduct of election in the council.''
Mr Ige added that the said one point seven million represent the financial contributions of all chapels of the NUJ under the council both in the public and private sectors.
The private chapels however have rejected the caretaker committee consisting of only a few chapels of the council.
