Rivers NAWOJ Visit Children Home As Part Of Activities To Mark 2022

 



In a bid to reach out to the needy in the society, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ;Rivers State chapter,  paid a charitable visit to the Port Harcourt Children Home, at  Borokiri in PortHarcourt. 

The visit which was led by the chairperson of the Association, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana was part of the action plans for the year, 2022.  

The women branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists expressed concern towards the children, even as they appealed to the government, corporate organisations, religious bodies and well meaning Nigerians to support the Children in every possible way. 

NAWOJ while presenting gift items to the officials of the Children's home also commended them for their effort in feeding and taking care of the children. 

Speaking with Newsmen shortly after the presentation, the NAWOJ chairperson Mrs Serekara-Nwikhana stressed that the essence of the visit was to show love, kindness and encouragement to the children.

"All through last year, we have been going to other places but we have not been able to identify with them and they are part of our action plan for the year. Since last year we couldn't make it, that's why we said we must start this year with the children .” 

 “we are also working with the Ministry of Social Welfare, the commissioner in charge of the Ministry is working with us. We have met with her seeking for the partnership of the Ministry and they have already obliged us that. That is why we feel our coming here is not out of place. 

She further advised other Associations  to also visit the home from time to time, just to put  smiles on the faces of the children. 

 
On her part,  officer in charge of the Port Harcourt Children's Home,  Esther Ogbe, appreciated the leadership and members of NAWOJ for the kind gesture, praying that God will continue to bless and uphold them. 

Some of the items presented to the  home  includes, Cartons of noodles, diapers, toiletries  among other items.

We will Not Enslave Anyone - King Nnabiget XV

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive.
