Hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State have defected to the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Local Government Area under Governor Nyesom Wike administration, Boma Brown who led the defectors boosted that the Peoples Democratic Party will find it difficult to secure up to twenty-five percent vote in Opobo-Nkoro.
Mr.Brown stated that their decision was based on the fact that the captain of their former ship is leading the ship to sink, insisting that Opobo-Nkoro people will never accept a wrong choice because we want to occupy office.
He assured leadership of APC of his commitment to ensuring that PDP becomes a thing of the past especially in Opobo-Nkoro, insisting that the local government Area was never founded in crown but that their decision is for the interest of the entire people.
Other defectors who were officers of PDP including former council secretary, Elijah Elijah and Dappa said they benefited nothing in their former party, saying that all Opobo got came when Mr.Chibuike Amaechi was in power.
State Chairman of APC, Chief Emeka Beke who received the defectors assured them of equal opportunity in APC and mandated the leadership of the party in the area to ensure they carry the defectors along for the interest of victory in 2023 general elections.
