Women Journalists Task To Embrace Digital Tools In Stories Telling

Women Journalists have been called upon to brace up with the challenges of using new technology put in place to make their jobs easier and simple in stories telling using digital tools.


This was the charge given by Programme Manager Institute for Media and Society,(IMS), Mr Timothy Bamidele at a two day training in Port Harcourt on Digital Multimedia Stories Telling  organized by the Institute with support from European Union, (EU) for Women Journalists drawn from the South South States of the Federation.

Mr. Bamidele noted that the Institute decided to carry out the training for women journalists considering their importance in nation building and development.

The Programme Manager who emphasized on the place of women journalists in the society, noted that over sixty women journalists have so far been trained by the Institute.

He explained that the training  afforded female journalists the opportunity of looking at post election issues in Nigeria from different angles and create content using the multimedia digital skills in telling the stories across various platforms.

Mr. Bamidele added that women journalists in Nigeria needs to be trained and retrained to brace the gap with their contemporaries in other parts of the world.

One of the Facilitator's at the training Mrs. Ehi Ohiani who challenged women journalists to be focused and take their world by storm, enjoined journalists especially women to be technology driven and embrace digital content creation, leaving their footprint on the world of journalism.

Mrs.Ohiani noted that it is time women journalists shift from the old form of journalism which will not be relevant in the nearest future.

Participants at the training among whom are  NAWOJ Chairperson in Rivers State, Susan Serekere-Nwikhana appreciated IMS and the European Union Support to Democratic Governance for the opportunity of the training noting that with the digital skills acquired a lot will change among women journalists who attended the training.

She hoped the training will be stepped down to other journalists who were not part of the training, as the skills gotten from the training will ease their jobs going forward.

Bille People Appeal To Governor Fubara To Prevail On Alhaji Asari Dokubo To Stop Evasion Of Territory
