ARTICLE: APGA National Chairman Engages With UK High Commissioner To Strengthened Democratic Foundation In Nigeria

On Thursday, 11th September 2025, earlier in the day, an important diplomatic engagement took place at the APGA National Secretariat in Abuja, when the party’s
leadership hosted the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery CMG. 

This courtesy visit was more than a routine diplomatic gesture; it was a testament to the growing recognition of Nigeria’s democratic journey and the strategic importance of international partnerships in bolstering governance and development.

A DIPLOMATIC AND POLITICAL MILESTONE
The meeting centered around critical issues shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and democratic trajectory. 

Discussions ranged from the upcoming off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for November 8, 2025, to broader conversations on constitutional reforms and preparations for the 2027 general elections. 



These topics are not mere administrative details but are pivotal in shaping Nigeria’s democratic stability and sustainable development.

The UK’s sustained support for Nigeria’s democracy, underscored during this engagement, underscores the international community’s recognition of Nigeria’s potential as a regional leader. It also highlights the shared interest in ensuring that Nigeria’s electoral processes are transparent, credible, and inclusive—a necessity for fostering national unity and fostering economic growth.

POLITICAL STABILITY AND DEMOCRATIC CREDIBILITY
APGA’s leadership, represented by myself, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to conducting a governorship election in Anambra State that is free, fair, and transparent. This stance is critical because credible elections are the foundation of democratic legitimacy and stability. 

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, maintaining this credibility becomes even more vital, especially in a political environment often characterized by electoral disputes and allegations of misconduct.

The party’s emphasis on delivering good governance through people-centered policies aligns with Nigeria’s broader developmental goals. 

Good governance is the bedrock upon which economic development, social stability, and national unity are built. When political parties like APGA focus on transformational leadership and policy-driven 
governance, they contribute to creating an environment conducive to sustainable growth.
