IGP Disu Advocates Specialised Training For Police Personnel

In a bid to strengthen the professional capacity of Police officers in Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has advocated a strategic partnership between the police and the National Judicial Institute (NJC)

The Inspector General made the call, when he paid a visit to the National Judicial Institute.


A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the Inspector General, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the rule of law and the effective administration of criminal justice.

IGP DISU VISITS NATIONAL JUDICIAL INSTITUTE, ADVOCATES SPECIALISED TRAINING FOR POLICE PERSONNEL

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has advocated a strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to strengthen the professional capacity of police personnel through specialised legal and judicial training.


The Inspector-General of Police made the call during a courtesy visit to the National Judicial Institute, where he was received by the Administrator of the Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, alongside the Institute Secretary, Mr. Olumo Abdulazeez, Esq., and members of the Institute's Management Team.


During the visit, the IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the rule of law and the effective administration of criminal justice. He proposed a structured collaboration with the Institute to provide continuous training for Police lawyers, prosecutors, Investigating Police Officers (IPOs), and other personnel in critical areas such as criminal justice administration, electronic evidence, cybercrime, digital forensics, human rights, prosecution advocacy, and case management.


The Inspector-General also proposed the development of executive education and professional certification programmes for police personnel, as well as joint seminars, workshops, and research initiatives to strengthen investigative and prosecutorial standards.

Responding, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute welcomed the proposal and expressed the Institute's readiness to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force in advancing professional development. He also appreciated the Inspector-General for the establishment of a Police outpost within the Institute and requested further collaboration to strengthen security within the facility.


The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building strategic partnerships that strengthen professionalism and advance criminal justice administration.

Ghost Lawyer Defends Client in Port Harcourt Court

  A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt was thrown into confusion today Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026 when it noticed that a lawyer who had died since last year, 2025 December appeared before it on Tuesday the 10th of February, 2026 to conduct his matter. When the matter was called for hearing, and the lawyer was not present, the court on inquiry was informed by the litigant that his lawyer died since last year December 2025. The court, presided over by Senior Magistrate Kingsley Briggs became confused and had to search through his record book, where he confirmed the lawyer’s presence during proceeding on Tuesday the 10th day of February, 2026. The Senior Magistrate informed the litigant on how the court had wanted to issue a bench warrant against him if not for the intervention of his lawyer who pleaded that he the litigant was sick and needed medical attention.
