INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026: A CALL TO ACTIVE YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN DEMOCRACY

By: Nduka Anyanwu 2027 APGA Candidate Ahiazu/Ezinihite Mbaise Federal Constituency

The People’s Servant

As we celebrate International Youth Day 2026, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to the young people of Nigeria—our nation’s greatest reservoir of energy, creativity, resilience and potential.

As we approach the 2027 General Elections, I call on every young Nigerian to move beyond being spectators and become active participants in every stage of the electoral process. From voter registration and obtaining your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), to participating in campaigns, town-hall engagements, political discussions and, most importantly, casting your vote on Election Day, your participation matters.

I urge our youths to seek credible information, verify facts, make informed political choices and reject vote buying, violence, hate speech, intimidation and misinformation. Democracy thrives when citizens are informed, engaged and courageous enough to participate peacefully.

As a 2027 APGA Candidate for Ahiazu/Ezinihite Mbaise Federal Constituency, I believe strongly that the future of our constituency and Nigeria belongs to a generation of young people who must not only be heard but must also have a meaningful place at the table where decisions about their future are made.

As a young person myself, I understand the aspirations, frustrations and challenges confronting our youths. I therefore believe that youth participation in politics must go beyond election-day voting. Young people must be involved in policy conversations, community development, leadership, political organisation, voter education and the decision-making processes that shape our society.

I call on the youths of Ahiazu/Ezinihite Mbaise and Nigeria at large to take ownership of the democratic process. Get your PVC. Register. Participate. Ask questions. Hold leaders accountable. Vote wisely. Protect your vote. And remain peaceful.

Let us reject the politics of violence and division and embrace a politics of ideas, competence, service, inclusion and development.

The 2027 elections present another opportunity for our youths to demonstrate that their numerical strength can translate into responsible political power and positive transformation.

On this International Youth Day, I celebrate the courage, talents and aspirations of our young people and reaffirm my commitment to promoting a political culture where the youth are not merely supporters but active partners, leaders and stakeholders in governance.

Happy International Youth Day 2026!

May the courage, conviction and determination of our youths help shape the Nigeria—and the Ahiazu/Ezinihite Mbaise Federal Constituency—we desire.
