Commercial Drivers protest over the incessant killing of Road users in Rivers state

Commercial bus and Taxi drivers plying Elele-Omudioga- Omoku route in conjunction with members of National Road Transport Worker in Elele have staged a protest over alleged continues attacks and killing of drivers and passengers by suspected criminals. Our correspondent reports that the latest protest is in reaction to the attack of a driver identified as Alfred Igwe-Amadi leading to the dead of his passenger who died at the spot early hours of today. Some of the protesters who spoke to our correspondent complained of increase insecurity along the axis of the road especially since the announcement of the withdrawal of Onelga Security and Peace Advisory Committee OSPAC from the area by the state government. The protesters including the Park Manager and Vice Chairman of the Union said they suffer so much in the hands of criminals who attack them at gunpoint, kill drivers and passengers and as well steal their belonging including their cars without interference from security operatives. The protesters called on the government at all levels to take the primary responsibility of securing lives and properties of citizens seriously just as they threatened not to fold their hands and allow their members die unnecessary. Iheayi Owudirigbo who is younger brother to the driver who was shot expressed fears over the present health condition of his brother who he said was rejected at the first hospital where he was rushed to. Our correspondent reports that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Elele station later took his men to the scene of the incident but did not make his next line of action public.

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive.
