A Social Worker in Port Harcourt, Dr. Daniel Uranta says the prison service in the country needs total reform and overhaul and not just a change of name.
Dr Uranta who was reacting to the recent change of the name; Nigeria Prisons Service to Nigeria Correctional Service by the federal government said the change should focus on impacting the lives of the inmates and the warders.
The Social Worker said the inmates need counselors, medicals and adequate rehabilitation facilities.
President Muhammadu Buhari had changed the name of the Nigeria Prisons Service to Nigerian Correctional Service, after signing the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 into law.
This was made known by his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang.
