Taxi drivers plying Rumuokoro-Choba route have shot down operations in protest over alleged increase in ticket and other levy by the management of Rumuokoro motor park.
Our correspondent who monitored the protest reports that the taxi drivers stormed the motor park to resist the increase of ticket from three hundred naira to four hundred naira without any explanation by the management of the park with some beaten up by taskforce working under the management of the park.
Leader of the taxi drivers, Chigozie Nwuju who addressed the leadership of the park in presence of some security personnel said they decided to protest because of the difficulties they are facing in the hands of the management of the park especially the latest increment in tickets.
Nwuju complained that they buy same ticket three junctions within the same route in Obio-Akpor which he said makes them to go home with nothing at the end of the day toiling, even when the drivers of vehicle belonging to the leadership of the park do not buy ticket or even enter into the park to load passengers.
Some other taxi drivers who also spoke to our correspondent explained how some of them were beaten up because they decided to agitate against what they call extortion and fraud in the system.
The protesters alleged that the management of the park sells fake tickets to them which they suffer in the hands of authorities of Obio-Akpor Local Government Council just as they called on Governor Nyesom Wike to intervene to save them and also save his name which they said is been used to perpetrate some of the corrupt practices.
