Commercial drivers plying Rumuokoro-Igwuruta road have protested their alleged continued harassment by members of the taskforce against street trading.
The drivers who came out in their numbers said they have exhausted all avenues for dialogue and called on concerned authorities to urgently provide them with loading points.
State chairman of the Drivers Welfare Association, Comrade Lekia Isaac said all efforts to get a loading point for the drivers did not yield any result, hence their decision to carry out a one day warning strike.
Branch Chairman of the Drivers Welfare Association, Comrade Jerry Joe said the situation has become so bad that passengers have to run after vehicles to be able to board.
Two of the Drivers, said the situation aside hindering their business is also draining them financially.
The drivers also took the protest to the Obio Akpor local government council where the head of the state security service in the council assured the drivers that their grievances will be relayed to the local government chairman.
Passengers were seen trekking long distances before being able to board taxis.
The drivers carried placards with inscriptions including, Rivers state government we need good atmosphere to operate, Give us loading points and DWA support your good works.
