Seventy seven women organizations in Rivers State have demanded thorough unbiased investigation into the recent serial killing of ladies in hotels in the state
The women organizations in the state took to the street of Port Harcourt to protest what they described as one death too many.
Submitting a communique jointly signed by 77 women groups in the state , President Rotary club of port Harcourt south district Rita-Marley Idonor appealed to the government to wake up to its responsibilities of protecting lives and property of citizens. Mrs.Idonor while reading the communique observed that there should be proper documentation of visitors before lodging in hotels.
Responding on behalf of the Rivers State governor ,secretary to the state government Mr.Tammy Danagogo noted that the killing has become a concerns to the government,and assured governor nyesom Wike has held several security meetings to tackle the menace and bring culprits to book.
Addressing the protesters at the police headquarter Moscow Road ,the commissioner of police Mr. Mustapha Dandaura who advised the protesting women to be mindful of the transactions they do in hotels, revealed that another suspect has been arrested following a security tip off at the Rumuokoro axis of Port Harcourt.
Mr. Dandaura said the security agencies are working round the clock to fight crimes and criminality to a stand still in the state.
The women carrying banners with inscriptions such as stop the killings of our girls, we condemn the killings of our women among others, also marched to the DSS office to submit their letter,after which they proceeded to the Rivers State House of Assembly to do same.
The protest which was organized by women in Rotary south district 9141 took off from Earnest Ikoli press centre Port Harcourt and terminated at the centre with a prayer by the women.
