Unidentified gunmen have attacked three Bille passenger's boats enroute Port Harcourt from Bille kingdom in Degema Local Government Area fatally wounding three and carting away one of the boats.
One of the attacked boats is said to have family and guests of a wedding taking place in Port Harcourt. The attackers forcibly dropped passengers of the first two boats in the creeks and went away with their belongings.
A third boat sent to rescue the passengers was perforated with bullets from the attackers' guns which led to the dead of two persons and the boat is feared sunk in the middle of the river.
Reports says ,the incidence has made the Degema Local Government Chairman, Mr.Tony Philmoore, to cancel his trip to Buguma, headquarters of Asari Toru Local Government Area where the father of former Senior Special Adviser to Governor Wike on Special Projects, George Kelly, is to be buried. Dr. Philmoore is at press time monitoring and coordinating security from home.
Information from some quarters says the pirates may not be different from the ones that attacked a Port Harcourt bound boat from Bakana last Friday because of their modus operandi and timing.
Meanwhile, Rivers state Police Public Relations Officer Mr.Nnamdi Omoni says he is yet to be briefed on the ugly incident.
