The Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt branch has decried the violation of Human rights even by the security agencies who are supposed to protect the rights of citizens.
Vice Chairman of the branch who is also the chairman Human Rights Committee, Barrister Chidi Ekeh said this at a seminar organized to celebrate the 71st United Nations International Human Rights day, maintained that the importance of Human rights cannot be over emphasized.
Barrister Ekeh noted that the Nigerian Bar Association will continue to create awareness on the importance of upholding Human Rights.
One of the speaker's at the event, Dr. Tunji Abayomi while explaining that the seminar was necessary to reawaken the consciousness of lawyers on their duties of protecting Citizen’s Rights, advised governments to work towards protecting her citizens.
The seminar topic which was Human Rights violations in contemporary, Nigerian environment: challenges and solutions and also the role of lawyers in Human Rights protection was chaired by Justice Adolphus Enebeli and Senior Advocate of Nigeria O C J Okocha.
