The Rivers state police command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Christian Ike who allegedly killed one Mike Oforji Ejire at Aleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO; Mr. Nnamdi Omoni who spoke with our Correspondent said the late Mike died as a result of a punch in the stomach by the inspector while trying to settle a fight between the deceased, and a petty trader.
Mr.Omoni said trouble ensued when the deceased asked the woman to vacate the front of the compound where she trades considering the fact that it was late and there was curfew.
In the process of packing her goods, the items fell on the ground, and the woman demanded the late Mike paid eight hundred naira for the damaged goods, and the deceased agreed to pay four hundred naira, which escalated into much debate.
The Rivers State Police Spokesman said the noise attracted the police officers, who were attached to a private premises near the compound of the deceased.
Inspector Christian Ike sent sergeant Daniel Okachi working with him, to know why there was much noise in the deceased place.
the sergeant got to the place, and was unable to settle both parties which prompted the inspector to go to the scene.
According to the PPRO, the deceased had overpowered the woman and the sergeant so In the cause of defending them, Inspector Ike hit the deceased in his stomach, who slumped and was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
The state police Image Maker said the inspector and the woman have been arrested and the case transferred to State criminal Investigative Department ,SCID;for further investigations.
The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary.
However, It was earlier gathered that late Mike Ejire Oforji, was killed by a Police Officer in Aleto, Eleme, because of four thousand naira alledgedly owed the said woman involved in the case
And On getting to the deceased house for arrest, the officer hit the young man's chest repeatedly, with his riffle till he slumped and vomited blood which led to his death.
