A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in PortHarcourt has remanded in correctional center four Ex Police Officers who tortured Chima Ikwunado an auto mechanic to death and inflicted grievous injuries on four others.
The suspect Ayogu Fidelis,Eke Chibuzor,Egbunfu Felix and Rose Georgewill were arraigned in court by the police on seven count charges bothering on murder, attempt murder and conspiracy to murder.
Our Correspondent report that when the charges was read to the suspects in court they pleaded not guilty.
The chief magistrate Promise Iroanya after listening to arguments from the prosecuting and Defence Counsels stated that the crime committed is a capital offence and that the court lacks jurisdiction to trial the suspects and ordered the case file to be transfer to the Department of Public Prosecution ,DPP; for advice, while the suspects be remanded in correctional center and adjourned the matter to the 18th of September 2020.
Speaking outside the court room to journalists , Counsel for the 3rd Defendant Livingstone Nwonyike said that the court has referred that the case be filled appropriately in respect to count four, five six and seven because those are counts that the magistrate court has jurisdiction to drive and grant bail.
On her part, counsel for the nominant complainant Princess Lawrence said the victims complained that the number of the defendants that tortured them were not complete in court.
Mrs. Lawrence said she was surprised that the police called up only four Defendants in court.
You would recalled that Chima Ikwunado was tortured to dead, while four others were inflicted with grievous injuries by men of the Eagle Crack Squad of the Mile one police station December late year.
