Governor Wike Suspends Mayor of PortHarcourt City Local Government Area Over Illegal Taxes

Governor Nyesom Wike has suspended the chairman of PortHarcourt City Local Government Area ,Mr. Victor Ihunwo over illegal collection of taxes in the Area. The Governor who made this known through the commissioner for Information and Communication , pastor Paulinus Nsirim also suspended the Heads of Personnel Management, Heads of Local Government Administration and Treasurers of Abua Odual and Degema Local Government Areas for having official transactions with the suspended Local Government Chairmen of their Area. The statement below : GOVERNMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has approved the immediate suspension of the Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Hon. Victor Ihunwo for illegal tax collection. Similarly, traders at the Ogbum-nu-Abali Fruit Garden Market are hereby directed not to have any dealing with anyone who claims to be acting on behalf of Port Harcourt Local Government Area. Government has also removed JAAC Accounts from all the Banks that gave loans to some Local Government Councils without the authorisation of the State Government as provided in the Local Government Law. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice has therefore been authorized to institute legal action against the defaulting banks. The Chairmen of Abua and Degema Local Government Areas still remain suspended from office as their suspension order has not been lifted. Therefore, the Heads of Personnel Management, Heads of Local Government Administration and Treasurers of Abua and Degema Local Government Areas are hereby suspended with immediate effect for having official transactions with the suspended Local Government Chairmen. The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission is hereby directed to post officers of the same designations to replace the suspended officers immediately. A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive.
