Police Commence Investigation into the Alleged Rape of a Widow by Police Officer for not Wearing Face Mask

Four police officers who were involved in an alledged case of raping a woman for not wearing face mask along the East West road have been invited by the Rivers State Police command for questioning . Speaking to Newsmen at the Command Headquarter in PortHarcourt ,Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Nnamdi Omoni said the Commissioner of Police Joseph Mukan has ordered the case file be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID; for proper investigation . Mr. Omoni appealed to the general public to be calm that Justice will be served in the matter. On the 29th of July 2020 a woman who was said to be a widow and a mother of two has accused a Police Officer identified as inspector Peter Ebah for forcefully abducting and raping her till day break after she was arrested for not wearing a face mask. Narrating her ordeal,the woman disclosed that she was in a bus enroute Eleme from Bori at about 6:30pm of the same date when Police Officers led by the said Peter Ebah asked her to alight from the vehicle around Saakpenwa junction because of not wearing her face mask. According to the Widow,the Police Officer who pretended to be taking her to Police station at night fall later took her to guest house at gunpoint and raped her till day break. The woman revealed that She cooperated with the Officer to avoid been killed but managed to send out a Save Our Soul message to a close friend while at the guest house located along Kera before her mobile phone went off. Meanwhile a Human Rights Advocate in Rivers State,Prince Wiro has called on the Police to immediately commence investigation into the incident for Justice to be served. Mr. Wiro described the report as embarrassing,shocking and unpalatable . The Rights Activist said there is no justification for the punishment melted out on the woman by an Officer who is suppose to protect lives and property.
