Nigeria@60: No Protest Tomorrow ... Rivers CP Warn

As Nigeria marks it 60th Independence Anniversary, the Rivers State Police Command has  assured  the people of the State that there is no cause for alarm as adequate security deployments have been made to ensure that the Diamond Celebrations are carried out in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, while warning trouble makers and all criminal elements to have a rethink or face the full weight of the law. Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Nnamdi Omoni in a statement  further warn those  planning to stage a protest, or issuing an unlawful order of sit-at- home to immediately shelve the idea, as no effort will be spared in dealing with them. Rivers State Government to Reopen Schools...Oil Mill,Oginigba Market Remain Closed

The Rivers State Executive Council has approved the reopening of schools in the State with effect from Monday October 5, 2020. The Council took the decision at an emergency session presided over by the State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Government House, Port Harcourt. The Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku announced this while briefing journalists at the end of the meeting. According to him, all Secondary Schools, Vocational Schools, Universities and other Tertiary Institutions are affected by the directive. He however stated that Council did not approve the reopening of primary schools based on expert medical advice. Professor Ebeku added that Council also approved the setting up of a Seven-man Taskforce to monitor and enforce the compliance of COVID-19 protocols in the various schools. Family Members of Teenager Shot By Police Seeks Justice

Family of late  Daniel  Ikeagwuchi the  20 year old teenager who was allegedly shot to death by a Police Officer guarding a supermarket at Elelewon last Saturday when the deceased and two of his friends were being chased by Personnel of Anti kidnapping unit are calling for Justice.    Elder sister of the deceased Miss Maureen Ikeagwuchi in an interview with our correspondent decried the inhumane treatment meted to her brother and appealed to the appropriate authorities to ensure the matter is not swept under the carpet.  Miss Ikeagwuchi said nothing incriminating was found on her brother neither did he commit any crime to warrant been shot. However a Human Rights activist in Rivers State, Prince Wiro has called on the Commissioner of Police to ensure justice is served in the matter. Mr.Wiro urged the Commissioner to show  his zero tolerance to human rights abuses as he had  promised.

Police Arrest Officers who Allegedly Shot Teenager in PortHarcourt

A sergeant ,Isaiah Ben and four other officers from the anti kidnapping unit of the Rivers State Police Command who were allegedly involved in the shooting of one Daniel Ikeagwuchi have been  transferred  to the State CID for further Investigation. Police Public Relations Officer  Mr. Nnamdi Omoni in a statement said on the nineteenth of this month ,the leader of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on patrol along Elelenwo took Daniel Ikeagwuchi with Sergeant Isaiah Ben attached to 35 PMF Jigawa but on guard duty at an Estate in Elelenwo, who allegedly shot the deceased to  Elelenwo Police Station.  On the receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Mr.Chima Nnaji  ordered that the boy who was bleeding be taken to the Hospital, but he died before he could get medical attention.

Three Feared Dead as Security Men Storm Andoni Communities

Residents of six communities in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have fled their homes following a joint operation by security agents   which led to the death of three persons. The communities  are Ibotirem, Ajakajak, Samanga, Dema, Oturia and Otuafu. Some Residents who spoke to our Correspondent said Joint Taskforce comprising Spe cial Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, the Military and Navy in company of Andoni Security Peace and Advisory Council, ANOSPAC stormed the communities in gun boats while residents were preparing for Church service. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major Charles Ekeocha and the police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni both said they  were yet to be briefed and promised to get back to our correspondent.

Police Lunch Manhunt for another Notorious Criminal...Commend Wike for Redeeming Bounty on Boboski

The people of Ogoni land have been assured of police commitment to end the acts of criminality in the area. Commissioner of Police Mr.Joseph Mukan gave this assurance while briefing Newsmen at the command headquarters in PortHarcourt. Mr Mukan emphasised that the manhunt is on for another notorious cultist popularly known as VIP who has also been terrorising the State in various crimes. The commissioner commended Governor Nyesom Wike for redeeming his bounty pledge on notorious cultist Honest  Diigbara popurlarly known as Boboski . Last week Saturday, Boboski was arrested by the police and died few hours later from gunshot wounds.

Woman Rescued from Septic Tank Seeks Financial Support

Mrs. Chizoba Eke the woman who was rescued from a septic tank after been kidnapped and brutalized is asking for financial assistance to pay her hospital bills. Mrs. Eke who spoke to our Correspondent on her hospital bed said the bill is two hundred and thirty seven thousand naira. The mother of two appealed to the State government and well-meaning individuals to come to her aid as her husband has no means of paying the bills. Also speaking, her husband Mr. Eke Eke said he does menial job for a living and added that his wife needs psychological examination to know her mental state. Our Correspondent reports that the woman was limping and cannot raise her left hand as a result of the injuries she sustained from the ordeal. Most Wanted Boboski and Driver Die in Custody After Police Arrest

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested the most wanted kidnapper  Honest Diigbara popularly known as Boboski from Nwidera Gokana Local Government Area. The notorious gang leader Honest Diigbara who had been on the police watch list and declared wanted by the state Government with a bounty of thirty million naira was arrested today in a sting operation of the Command, with the assistance of a local security outfit. Briefing Newsmen at the command headquarter in PortHarcourt, Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan explained that the notorious criminal was arrested through credible information at korokoro community in Khana local government where he was hiding with his gang members. Family members Insist Philip Brown was Tortured to Death by Diobu Vigilante Members

Controversy has continued to trail the death of a suspect Philip Brown popularly called School Boy in the detention of Eagle crack unit of the Mile One Police Station.  Family of late Philip Brown alleged that the deceased was tortured by vigilante group under the supervision of the police and died in the process. Prosecute My Husband for defiling our 3 Daughters' woman beg police

One Mrs Christaina Tobias has called for prosecution of her husband Uchenna  Tobias from Imo State  for allegedly defiling their three daughters.  Mrs Tobias in an interview with our Correspondent appealed to the Rivers State Police command to ensure that her husband faces justice.  Narrating her ordeal, the mother of four said the incident happened in May this year when she was leaving for the market and asked her ten year old daughter to birth her younger sister but a female neighbor who opted to bath the five year old daughter discovered that the child has been penetrated.  She explained that when she came back from the market the neighbour then   informed her about it and they took the child to the hospital for medical examination. Illegal Taskforce Members Cause Accident of A Junior Secondary school Boy in PortHarcourt

A young boy in Junior Secondary School three has been knocked down by a Sienna Bus along NTA Road Mbguoba PortHarcourt. Two eye witnesses who saw when the teenager was hit by the car Mr. Sibichi Elim and Mr. Alfred Akuchukwu said that the incident occurred because the driver of the vehicle was dragging the steering wheel with taskforce officials which made the car to veer off the road to the pedestrian path. The boy’s   school teacher Mrs. Olabisi Nwadike who expressed shock to see her student lying unconscious stressed that he just left  school few minutes after writing his exams before the accident occurred. Mrs. Nwadike appealed with the relevant authority to call the taskforce to order to forestall further incidents. The student is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Police Arrest Two persons in connection with Oyigbo Crisis

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the attack that led to the death of two persons from the Hausa extraction at  yam market in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state. Earlier, on the 5th of this month there was a clash between scavengers of scrap materials from Igbo and Hausa at  the Yam Market.  Police public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni in a press statement said the Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan  summoned the parties and brokered a truce where he warned them to go back and keep the peace.  Mr. Omoni also noted that the bodies of the deceased Hausa men were immediately evacuated and buried in accordance with Islamic injunction, while the area  has been fortified and security beefed up, to avoid  reprisal attack or further breakdown of law and order. Police Parade Suspect Who Throw Woman Into Septic Tank at Igwuruta

About twenty three suspects have been paraded by the Rivers State Police Command for various crimes.  Among the suspects was a twenty three year old man who was arrested with a five month old baby after abducting and killing the baby’s mother. Briefing Journalists at the Police headquarter in Port Harcourt, Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan said the suspects were arrested in different parts of the state for various crimes. Mr.  Mukan said one of the suspects Chinedu Nwachukwu was arrested by the police on stop and search last month at Omerelu in Rivers State with a five month old baby. Upon interrogation the suspect confessed to have killed the mother of the child and dumped her inside a septic tank in an uncompleted building at Igwuruta, in Ikwerre local government area of the State.
