A group known as Rivers Youths in Rivers State has joined in the nationwide #EndSars protest to end police brutality and extrajudicial killings.
The group marched from Polo club GRA to Police headquarters Moscow road chanting SARs must go.
Leader of the group, Mr. Fred Tariah while submitting a letter to the State commissioner of police, appealed to Nigerian youths to leave the street as the government is working to meet with their demands.
Mr. Tariah said the youths joined in the peaceful rally to add their voice to the agitation for a better Nigeria. ,
The Youths leader called for a total reform of the police force.
Addressing the protesters, commissioner of police Mr. Joseph Mukan assured the people that their letter will get to the president through the Inspector General of police.
Mr. Mukan while appreciating the protesters for their peaceful conduct assured them a new police force.
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as, the real and lasting victories are those of peace and not of violence, we say no to SARs , we stand with president Buhari ,we say yes to victims support funds and many others.
Meanwhile the EndSARs protest led by the chairman , Rivers State Civil society Organization Enefaa Georgewill also embarked on a peaceful rally calling to an end to SARS and police brutality.
Mr. Georgewill said their demands are not only on ENDSARs or Police reform but also an end to bad governance.
Our correspondent reports that the protesters started their protest from Pleasure park down to the state High court in port Harcourt to call for quick dispensation of justice on Chima Ikunado's case but were not attended to by the Chief Judge of the state, justice Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra and also to the police headquarters .
Responding to the protesters, the commissioner of police Mr. Joseph Mukan while noting the disbandment of SARs said the new unit SWAT that was created will be professional in their dealing.
