#Police Brutality: Families of Victims Testify before Judicial Commission of Inquiry Sitting in PortHarcourt
Mr. Bright Nwabueze from Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State told members of the state Judicial Commission of Inquiry Investigating the alleged acts of violence, torture, murder and violation of fundamental Rights of Citizens by Officers and Men of the Nigerian Police that he was brutally wounded by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS;.
Mr. Nwabueze, explained to the panel that SARS operatives collected his three hundred and fifty thousand naira and his mobile phone that was in his possession around Mile one Motor Park in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state.
The victim said he could not identified any of the men, saying the SARS operatives were not having a name tag making it difficult to identify them.
Another petitioner identified as Tamunodepriye Akalobo told the panel how a stray bullet from SARS operatives killed his fourteen years old son during the#EndSARS protest in Rivers State.
Mr. Akalobo said he saw the lifeless body of his son in pool of blood on the Port Harcourt Express way after the son was sent to hawk sachet water .
Another complainant Mr. Lucky Eze who is a Supervisor in one of the Petrol Filling Stations in Ahoada East local government area of the state narrated to the panel of Judicial Commission of Inquiry how SARS operatives brutalized him after they claimed that one of the pump attendant dispensed fuel less than the amount they paid .
The alleged victim of brutality Mr. Eze demanded for twenty million naira compensation for the torture he received from the Officers.
Also Mr. Nnodi Sylvanus told the panel that bullet from sporadic shooting by Operatives of SARS killed his three day old baby inside their apartment and that he was chased away by men of SARS when he visited their office to lay official complaint .
Mr. Sylvanus said he want justice for his late child whose life was cut short as a result of recklessness of the SARS officers.
While ,Sandra Nhejireme and Mr. Malasha Adamu were absent from the hearing and the panel adjourned their case till tomorrow after their counsel Owen Obidah pleaded with the panel for an adjournment following their absence.
Our Correspondent reports that N N Nweke and C.M Dickson who are counsels for the Commissioner of Police dismissed all the claims of the petitioners and asked the panel to dismissed them but the Chairman of the Panel reserved position of the panel.
