Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Acts of Violence , Torture, Brutality , murder and Violation of Fundamental Rights of Citizens Committed by Officers Men and Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Rivers State has held it's inaugural sitting in Port Harcourt.
Chairman of the Panel, Justice Chukwuneye Uriri in his inaugural speech said the Commission received a total of one hundred and seventy-one Memorandum from petitioners.
Justice Uriri said their terms of reference include to ascertain and identify the acts of violence, torture, brutality, murder and violation of fundamental Right of citizens by officers and men of Nigerian Police especially operatives of default Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
The chairman also said the Commission will identify the officers involved in the act, motive of their actions and as well victims of the act by officers especially, the default SARS.
He revealed that the commission will make recommendations to the State Government and assured that justice will be served to everyone involved in the matter.
Our Correspondent reports that hearing which is expected to commence tomorrow with six or less petitions to be heard on daily basis will end on the 30th of December, 2020.
