The Association of Maritime Workers Union has appealed to Federal Government, State Government, Nigerian Port Authority, NIMASA Director General to wade into the non payment of it's workers benefits by Integrated Logistic Services Nigeria Ltd,INTELS;
Chairman Senior Staff Maritime Workers Union, INTELS and Association Maritime Services AMS ,Mr. Sunday Atakpo, made the appeal during a protest organised by the group at INTELS in Onne Rivers State.
Mr .Atakpo said that six hundred and thirty three out of seven hundred members of their union working for INTEL were placed on redundancy without payment of their benefits.
He stated that the members who have worked for 23 years with AMS under INTELS were placed on redundancy without following the condition of service.
Similarly, Chairman Junior Staff of INTELS Association of Maritime Services, Mr. Tunde Bolaji, also told Newsmen that the workers were protesting because ninety percent of them who were placed on redundancy without benefits have served for 10 years.
Mr. Bolaji said that the company's system of calling back workers after redundancy is contrary to Labour law.
Efforts to reach management of INTEL proved abortive as several calls placed on their phones numbers were not answered or returned.
