Ahead of tomorrow's celebration, Rivers State Police command has deployed officers and men of the force across local government areas and waterways to ensure a hitch free Christmas.
Briefing newsmen at the police headquarters in PortHarcourt commissioner of police Mr Joseph Mukan stated that critical government infrastructure including worship and fun centres will be given special attention.
"Our strategy has also captured the coastal Communities to ensure that, those travelling to the riverine Communities are save. The Marine Police, the Mobile Police and the Tactical Units have been put on red alert to ensure a seamless Celebration, including the undercover operations.''
Mr Mukan explained that the command is oblivious of the fact that criminals take advantage of the season to perpetrate crime on innocent citizens hence the need to restrategise for effective community policing.
He reechoed the ban on fireworks , crackers and knockout which he stressed are explosive in nature and capable of causing harm.
The commissioner of police promised that the command will minimize the misuse of firearms and extra judicial killing by some Police officers recently experienced in the State.
