72 Year Old Man Demands 100Million Naira Compensation From Police For Allegedly Killing His Son


 Countdown to the sixty days deadline by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for the commission of Inquiry into alleged police brutality to submit its reports, multiple petitions of murder, brutality and unlawful detention of persons by operatives of the Nigerian police force have continued to gain attention by the panel.

 

Appearing before the commission, a petitioner, 72 year old Humphrey Nwaiwu has demanded for one hundred million naira compensation from the Nigerian police force for allegedly killing his 28 year old son, Mr Henry Nwaiwu, a graduate of the University of Calabar.

 

Mr Nwaiwu told the commission that Operatives of the Old GRA police Division shot his son to death with the allegation that he was an armed robber but it was later discovered that the deceased was Innocent.


 

Another petitioner, Mr Princewill Isinwor accused Operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-robbery squad SARs of killing his younger brother Mr Friday Isinwor on the 11th of march 2009.

 

He said his brother was arrested by the disbanded SARS Operatives over alleged communal matter and later died as a result of torture meted out on him.

 

Mr. Isinwor demanded the sum of two hundred and fifty million naira compensation from the police.

 

 

Four out of twelve petitions on police brutality entertained by the panel were struck out for lack of Jurisdiction during the sitting.

 

Our Correspondent reports that cases that have been decided by court of competent jurisdiction and whose petitioners did not appear before the panel were also struck out.

Rivers State Government Targets Reduction In Gender Based Violence
