Man Accuse Elele Police Division Of Compromise In Case Of Police Officer Involved In Illegal Oil Bunkering That Raze His Building
One Mr Iyke Opara has accused the Elele Police Division in Ikwerre Local Government Area, of Rivers state,of compromise in the case in which alleged illegal bunkering activities of a serving Police Sergeant,Bassey Stanley led to fire accident that razed his one storey and six rooms building opposite old Delta hotel along Port Harcourt road,Elele,Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Speaking to our correspondent, Mr Opara explained that on the fateful day in September 2020, the vehicle conveying the illegal bunkering product allegedly owned by the Police Officer serving in Mopol forty -eight, Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local Government Area of the state gut fire in front of his compound and later spread to his building and that of his Uncle, Mr. Thompson Okoko.
Mr. Opara said that the inferno razed his one storey building, six rooms as well as five and one bedroom flats with four lock up stores which belongs to his Uncle,Mr Thompson Okoko
Mr Opara alleged that before the incident,he had confronted the Police Officer who allegedly owns the illegal bunkering products and the driver not to ply the route where his house was located.
He explained that he made complaints to Elele Police Division the same day the incident happened but five months after nothing was done by the Police Division which prompted him to report the matter to human rights desk of Rivers State Police headquarters, Port Harcourt.
He expressed concern that the Police Officer still indulge himself in illegal bunkering activities till date.
The Alleged victim stated that his seventy year old Uncle died two months after the fire incident due to shock.
He called on the Commissioner of Police, Mr Eboka Friday to ensure justice in the matter while calling on Human Rights organisation and the state Government to come to his aid.
In the meantime, a Human Rights Advocate, Prince Wiro who is also the coordinator Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called on the Police Commissioner, Mr Eboka Friday to order a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegation made by Mr. Opara against a serving Police Officer in the state.
Mr Wiro said considering the negative effects to the environment by activities of illegal bunkering,the command should expedite action to ascertain the veracity of Mr Opara's claims and if the Police Officer is found culpable, he should be dealt with in accordance to the law.
