Governor Wike Slam NBA Over Judiciary Financial Autonomy Protest


 Members of the Rivers State Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA; has joined members of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria to demand for Financial Autonomy.


The Port Harcourt Branch Chairman of NBA, Prince  Nyekwere who spoke to Newsmen during a protest to State Government  said they were in Government House as directed by their National President to ask Governor Nyesom Wike to implement the financial Autonomy approved by President Muhammadu  Buhari.

Mr Nyekwere who commended the governor for his developmental projects for the Judiciary said the financial Autonomy if implemented will help correct negative narratives.

The NBA Port Harcourt Branch Chairman said the judiciary has all it takes to manage their funds and carry out infrastructural development.


Meanwhile,Rivers State Governor Nyesom  Wike has described as uncalled for the protest embarked upon by Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria and Nigeria Bar Association in the state.

Our Correspondent reports that Governor Wike who addressed the Protesting NBA members claimed that the state government has been implementing the Financial Autonomy.

Governor Wike slammed the NBA for not protesting when the previous Administration shut down courts for a year,urged the association against politicization of the issue.

The Governor while criticizing the protesters for depending on the complaints from their members in other states that are yet to implement the Autonomy demanded that NBA ask JUSUN to call off their strike.

Ghost Lawyer Defends Client in Port Harcourt Court

  A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt was thrown into confusion today Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026 when it noticed that a lawyer who had died since last year, 2025 December appeared before it on Tuesday the 10th of February, 2026 to conduct his matter. When the matter was called for hearing, and the lawyer was not present, the court on inquiry was informed by the litigant that his lawyer died since last year December 2025. The court, presided over by Senior Magistrate Kingsley Briggs became confused and had to search through his record book, where he confirmed the lawyer’s presence during proceeding on Tuesday the 10th day of February, 2026. The Senior Magistrate informed the litigant on how the court had wanted to issue a bench warrant against him if not for the intervention of his lawyer who pleaded that he the litigant was sick and needed medical attention.
