Rivers CP Charge Candidates For LGA Elections To Maintain Peace ...Warn To Arrest Trouble Makers






 



Ahead of local government election slated for April 17 in Rivers State, the State police command has called on all political parties in the state to be of good conduct before, during and after the election.

Commissioner of Police Mr Eboka Friday who made the call at a security meeting held with all political parties chairmanship candidates in Port Harcourt said the parties will be given a level playing ground, warning that any person who goes against the laws governing Election will be arrested and prosecuted.
 Mr Eboka Friday advised candidates of the political parties not to see election as a do or die affair.

He  assured that adequate security personnel will be deployed to all the local government Areas including waterways.

On his part, chairman Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC justice George Omereji said they are ready to conduct a free and credible election come April 17.

Justice Omeriji represented by Dr Iyeneomie Tamunobereton noted that no political party will be preferred above others.

The chairman appealed to residents of the state to come out enmass and vote for candidates of their choice.


Speaking at the sideline of the event PDP Chairmanship candidate for Andoni local government Area Barrister Erastus Awortu appealed to residents of the area to be peaceful during and after the election adding that peace is a panacea for the development of any area.

The Chairmanship candidate enjoined other political parties to toll the part of peace during and after the election.

He said if elected he will ensure  enable environment for the social life of the people.


The chairman who spoke extensively on the issue of insecurity plaguing the area explained that if elected security will top the agenda of his administration.


Similarly, chairmanship candidate for Accord party in Opobo Nkoro local government Evangelist Christopher Jaja and ADC candidate in Emuoha local government pastor Obihiele John said security agents should distance themselves from every form of electoral malpractice. 

The candidates urged security agencies not to give preference to any political party.

The security meeting was well attended by top security agents and chairmanship candidates of the political parties.

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages.
