'Recognize Us' As Your Host Community' Finima People Urges NLNG In A Peaceful Protest

 Finima community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State have staged a peaceful protest to  the industrial area of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited,NLNG;  in Bonny.


Members of the community, numbering over 1000, blocked the main entrance of the NLNG singing and dancing Ibani cultural songs, demanding to be officially recognized as host community to the NLNG.

One of the stakeholders in the community, Mr. Dagogo Brown, said they want the gas multinational to be addressed and recognized as NLNG Finima in Bonny Island and not just NLNG Bonny.

Mr Brown maintained that the Community Content Guidelines CCG, stipulated  in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, NOGICD Act should be implemented for the people of Finima, as host community .
He stressed that they are tired with their tenant, NLNG, as they have refused to obey the NOGICD Act of 2010 which clearly defined an host community and their rights. 

The elder state man while noting that Finima is the landlords of NLNG and  need to be recognised as such ,revealed that Finima will not rest until their desires are met as it is enshrined by the law

of Nigeria.

Mr Brown called on the federal government to call NLNG to order to obey the Nigerian laws as stipulated in the NOGICD Act.


He added

that the community as a host should be given a fair opportunity to participate in the upcoming Train-7 project and every other developmental projects of the company.

Also speaking, a woman leader and former Councillor in Finima, Mrs Prinye Kabaka, lamented that the people of Finima are been grossly marginalized by NLNG.



Mrs Kabaka decried that graduates and Master degree holders  from Finima community are working as cleaners in NLNG while  Scholarships are not given to any youth in the community as, everything goes to Bonny. 


The protesters displayed placards with different inscriptions, such as "NLNG respect the NOGICD Act, give us our rights as host communities", "

NLNG stay out of community politics," "We shall not back down; among others.

However, effort to reached the management of NLNG proved aborted as several calls put to the line of the head of public affairs was not picked.
