The Rivers State Government have lifted the curfew imposed on the 23 local government areas of the state.
Governor Nyesom Wike in a state broadcast said in response to the security breaches and premeditate attacks and killing of security officers in some of the neighboring States by gunmen a night-time curfew was imposed on the land borders with other States on the 28th of April 2021.
The Governor stated that following the premeditated attacked and killing of some security personnel in Abua Odual and Ikwerre Local Government Areas by gunmen, the government was forced to impose a statewide curfew from 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.
Speaking further, the state Boss explained that on the 11th of May 2021, the gunmen defied the existing curfew and carried out yet another murderous attack and killing of some security personnel in the State, that prompted the review of the statewide curfew from 7.00 pm to 6.00 a.m.
While on the 16th of May 2021 the existing curfew timeframe was readjusted to 8.30 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. for Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas only.
Consequently, sequel to the measurable improvements in the security situation in the State as well as in the neighbouring States, the government decided to lift the existing curfew on the entire State from tomorrow 7th July 2021.
Governor Wike while enjoining residents of the state to be security conscious and report any suspicious situation to the security agencies for actions, reassured the people of deploying every resource at his disposal to ensure the safety of lives and property of all residents.
Meanwhile, residents of the state described the action of the governor as a welcome development as the people suffered gridlock for the past two months while trying to beat up curfew time.
