RSG Laud Teachers For Continued Dedication To Educational Development

The Secretary to Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo has commended teachers who are dedicated and committed to the selfless services of mentoring and shaping the next generation of Nigerians.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Rivers State Chapter, in his office on Friday, Dr. Danagogo observed that high quality teaching staff is a requisite cornerstone of a successful society.

Dr. Danagogo emphasized that the importance of educators and policy makers focusing on curriculum reforms, supervision, and teacher’s quality for educational reforms in the country are vital keys to securing  the destinies of future generations.

“There is no child that is not capable of deviating, except the parents and teachers are firm and deliberately supervise to lead them in the right path. I respect teachers a lot, many of us would not have been who we are today if not for the commitment of teachers that were firm with us as children”, he said.

Acknowledging that the teaching profession is a call to humanitarian service, he said that the 2021 World Teachers Day Theme; ‘Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery’ is apt because it focuses on teachers who deliver on their principles of dignity, truthfulness, fairness and responsibility to the pupil and society at large.

“To positively upturn the future of our children, government and the teachers must ensure our educational systems contents are solid and active. Besides the curricula activities, extra-curricula activities that will engage students at all levels must be revived to regain the minds of the young generation.

“Your work is very important to Government, God and the destinies of the future generation. I assure you that as a promise keeper, the Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike will look into your demands,” he stated.

On the issues of free education, the SSG re-affirmed that the state will continue to guarantee same opportunity for all school age children the chance for basic education, irrespective of economic status of parents/guardian.

“The Governor's position on free primary education is a well-intentioned stand. We don’t want parents to deny any child of education because of money. Many of us, if money was required for our education, we would  not have been able to go to school. No child should be denied education in Rivers State because a parent is unable to pay fees.

“What is the work we are all doing if the children coming behind us are educationally disabled. God forbid. That will not happen. And we all have a role to play," he stressed.

The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers, Rivers State Chapter, Sir. Nkpogone Dumnaatah, thanked Governor Wike for his dedication and commitment in reviving the educational sector of the State.

“Education is the backbone of all societies, and the pivot of this development is the teacher. In line with the 2021 World Teachers Day theme, Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery; education cannot be derived without the teacher,” he said.

He noted that the Union is committed to supporting and working in synergy with the NEW Administration.
