Niger Delta Women Calls On Government To Make Open Report Of Forensic Audit

Over 100 women drawn from Niger Delta states  staged a peaceful protest blocking the gates of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Headquarters at Eastern By-Pass in Port Harcourt.

Our correspondent reports that the protesting women under a group known as WAILING WOMEN OF THE NIGER DELTA called for the constitution of a new substantive board of the NDDC.

They also called for the dissolution of the interim board headed by Effiong Akwa and removal of the Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, adding that women should be part of the proposed new Board.

Coordinator of the group Adienbo Odighonin, who spoke on behalf of the women said the current board is operating illegally and the forensic audit should be made public immediately.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Rivers State, ACP UM Ogechi, who listened to the women invited them to the command for negotiation but the women declined the invitation of ACP.

State Coordinators from Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta and others also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reconstitute a new board for the benefit of all Niger Deltans.
