Rivers State Police Command says it's attention has been drawn to a viral video of an illegal mortuary where kidnappers deposit the bodies of kidnapped victims who died in their custody.
A statement by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Grace Iringe-Koko, a Preliminary investigation revealed that the mortuary actually exists in the premises of the General Hospital Elele Alimini, owned by the State Government, which had been abandoned for over ten years and staff laid off.
In the statement, Mrs Iringe-Koko explained that some mortuary attendants however decided to stay back to attend to the corpses that were in the morgue to avoid an outbreak of disease..
The statement further noted that one Mr. Okachi Wali met at the premises was a casual staff of the mortuary who is still rendering his services.
According to the statement, the morgue is not being run by kidnappers as portrayed.
The Command enjoined residents of the state to go about their lawful duties and report any suspicious development to the authorities.
