The Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ, has elected a new 7 man State executives led by Mr Job Stanley-Job to pilot affairs of the Union for the next three years.
Mr Stanley-Job defeated his closest opponent Mr. Paul Bazia by one hundred and fifty votes to one hundred and forty.
Radio Nigeria's Esther Obialor was also elected as the Assistant Secretary of the State council, after defeating her opponent Mr Lilly Box by one hundred and ninety one votes to ninety four.
Declaring the results at the end of the exercise,, the NUJ National Vice President in charge of South South zone Mr Opaka Dokubo described the exercise as a keenly contested one.
Mr Dokubo while urging the new executives to be magnanimous in victory, called for a more united and strong NUJ in the State.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman Mr Stanley-Job said the successful conduct of the election has brought to an end the initial crisis that rocked the council.
He pledged to run an open door policy that will carry all members along especially in ensuring the welfare of members.
The NUJ election in the state was slated to hold in August 2021 but was postponed on three occasions following disagreement among interested candidates.
The new executives have since been sworn in in accordance with the NUJ rules.
