NAWOJ Calls For Establishment Of Gender Desk In Police Divisions

 






Nigeria Association Of Women Journalists,  NAWOJ; Rivers State chapter has urged the Nigeria police to give top priority to  Gender Based Violence, rape and any other forms of ill treatment against women and girls.

Chairperson of the Association Mrs. Susan Serekara-Nwikhana made the appeal when she led some members of the Association on a courtesy call to the former police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command Mr.Nnamdi Omoni who is now the new DPO of Elimgbu Police Station.

Mrs.Serekara-Nwika represented on the visit by the financial secretary of the Association Mrs Anita Ogona while congratulating Mr. Omoni on his elevation, also commended him for the drastic measures he had taken to tackle crime and criminality within his jurisdiction.

 
The Chairperson said the essence of the visit was to partner the division in establishing a gender desk  at Elimgbu police station where issues of Rape, abuses and violence against women and girls could be properly handled.

On his part, the new Divisional Police Officer, DPO; of Elimgbu Mr.Nnamdi  Omoni thanked the women group for their support throughout his career at the police Headquarters as the Police Image maker and promised to continue in that spirit of professionalism and policing with human face.


Mr. Omoni also thanked the Commissioner of Police Mr.Eboka Friday for finding him worthy to service at the division.

He appealed to Journalists to give maximum cooperation to the new Acting Police Public Relations Officer Mrs Grace Iringe-Koko to enable her succeed in Carrying out her functions as the spokesperson of the command.

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. Ghost Lawyer Defends Client in Port Harcourt Court

  A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt was thrown into confusion today Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026 when it noticed that a lawyer who had died since last year, 2025 December appeared before it on Tuesday the 10th of February, 2026 to conduct his matter. When the matter was called for hearing, and the lawyer was not present, the court on inquiry was informed by the litigant that his lawyer died since last year December 2025.
