Police Arraign Professor David Ogbonna For Alleged Rape Of Student

 



The Rivers State Police command has arraigned Professor David Ogbonna of the Rivers State University on allegations of unlawful and indecent sexual assault of a female student.

Professor  Ogbonna was arraigned before Chief Magistrate 
Menenen Poromon .

The charge sheet read that  Professor David Ogbonna on 16th day of May,2022 at Rivers State University campus, Oruwokwo in Obio/Akpor Magisterial district but triable in PortHarcourt Magisterial district did unlawfully and indecently assault a student aged twenty by inserting his manhood into the student Sex organ thereby committed an offence punishable under section 360 of the criminal code CAP 37 Vol.11 of laws of Rivers State,Nigeria 1999.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.


However, the defence Counsel Higher King urged the court to grant the defendant bail on self recognizance considering his status in the society.

Meanwhile Emi Jim George led lawyer holding brief for International Federation of Women Lawyers 
FIDA Rivers State branch urged the court not to grant the accused bail in view of alleged threat to the life of the ' victim'.

 Chief Magistrate Poromon after listening to argument of the both lawyers granted the accused bail in like sum of 2 million naira with a sureties residing in the Magisterial district.

The case was adjourned to July 20,2022.

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages.
