Rivers NUJ Celebrates Guardian Correspondent For Winning Wole Soyinka Award

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has congratulated the Rivers State Correspondent for Guardian Newspapers, Mrs. Ann Godwin, for winning the prestigious Wole Soyinka Journalism Award in Leadership.

The Council, in a statement by its secretary, Ike Wigodo, said the Union was proud that one of its members won the coveted award in journalism.

According to the statement, "the Wole Soyinka Journalism Award in Leadership is not a run-of-the-mill award that can be clinched so easily. It is an award that requires high professionalism, competence and resourcefulness to win. That one of us in Rivers NUJ, Ann Godwin, won the prestigious award is a good testimonial to our preference for investigative journalism".

The Union said that it was not surprised that Mrs Godwin won the award given her brilliance and exceptional commitment to the growth of journalism in the state.

The statement noted that Mrs Godwin's pet project 'Step Up Media Network' has raised the bar for female journalists in the state through well thought-out training programmes.

"We, therefore, congratulate Mrs Ann Godwin, and The Guardian newspapers for achieving this uncommon feat.

"The Rivers State Council is proud of your outstanding qualities in Investigative Journalism which marks you out for distinction and as a Union, we look forward to more journalists in Rivers State winning more trophies for their medium and our Council", the statement added.

NUJ urged the award recipient to keep the flag flying with more successes while encouraging other journalists in the state to emulate her good example.
