Rivers State Government has withdrew criminal charges against the Former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi , Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tonye Cole and five others.
When the case resumed for ruling , counsel to Rivers State government informed the court of the resolve to withdraw the suit.
The Defense Counsels told the court that withdrawing the suit at this point was an abuse of court process and asked the court to dismiss the criminal charges if the suit must be withdrew against the defendants .
Trial Judge Justice Okobule Gbasam in his ruling instead of dismissing the charges, struck out the charges.
The Judge, ruled that the plaintiff has right to discontinued with the matter and thereby, struck out the charges against the defendants
Speaking to Newsmen outside the courtroom, one of the Counsels to defendants, Achi Wobodo while explaining what transpired in court, said they demanded that the court should dismiss the charges instead of striking out.
Rivers State government had earlier filed a criminal suit against the Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for 2023 General election, Tonye Cole and five others over alleged sales of government assets.
