YAHA, a global initiative for sustainable development goals under the European Act, EU, launched a mental health awareness road walk in Okirika Local Government Area in Rivers state under the European Union Act project.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Executive Director of a non-governmental organization, NGO, YAHA Global initiative, Mr. Harrison Tubomini urged Nigerians to take mental health seriously and shun stigmatization of mental health patients.
Mr. Tubomini also explained the importance of mental checkup and the need for people to engage in therapy. According to him, mental health can come in any from and it can lead to depression, suicide and self-harm.
Also speaking, the programs coordinator for the NGO, Mrs. Samantha Wilson spoke on women’s mental health especially during post-natal.
She admonished women to have role models and look towards a better life no matter the challenges they face just like their role models.
On his part, the Finance officer, Mr. Afelaa Amoni, said the first step to recovery is acceptance. He said people need to acknowledge the state of their mental health so as to enable them discover the right help they require.
The YAHA global Initiative is a non-governmental organization under the European act that caters to the need for mental health awareness in Nigeria as the importance of constant mental health checkup can’t be over emphasized.
